May 18, 2021Take a look at this vintage step stool AMS restored using ecoblasting, powder coating, and fabrication techniques
Metal furniture is durable enough to last a lifetime with the right care. Over time, metal can begin to rust, but rust isn’t a death sentence for your beloved metal pieces, enter sandblasting. With a little TLC and a powder coat, AMS can restore them to their former glory.
Renewing Vintage Pieces
Take for instance this project we recently did. It shows the difference that some sandblasting and powder coating can make. This is a 1950s step stool that had been in our client’s family for a while. We took it apart, fixed it, and sandblasted and powder-coated this vintage piece.
We can renew your metal lawn furniture and other metal pieces in an environmentally friendly way, all the while helping your pieces last a lifetime.
Before/After
Our Process
The first step in restoring a piece like this is removing the old paint and debris with sandblasting. No chemicals are used during this process.
Then we make repairs. We have on-site welders that can reinforce any weak areas. If we need to make parts, we can do that, too.
After the sandblasting and repairs, it’s time to apply the powder coat. We have a variety of colors to choose from and can customize any “paint” job.
Once the powder coat is applied, the piece goes to the oven for curing. This process transforms the powder to a liquid form which allows it to flow into all the tiny crevices and seals the entire piece within an extremely durable coating. That coating will outlast a spray paint’s ability to withstand scratching and wear for many, many years.
You’ll be impressed with the entire experience. Our process will save you time and money and you’ll be able to enjoy your metal furniture for longer than if you DIY.
Why Sandblasting?
When you’re refinishing a metal surface, you need to sandblast it first. This will remove the years of rust and grime that have accumulated on the piece. Sandblasting can remove paint, rust, and residue from oxidation from materials quickly and efficiently. Sandblasting can also be used to change the condition of a metal’s surface, such as by removing scratches or casting marks. It is a cleaning method that has been widely used for over a hundred years and is environmentally friendly.
Why Powder Coating?
Powder coating is more economical, faster than painting, easier to apply, and longer lasting. But most importantly, there’s no environmental footprint. Powder coating is 100% environmentally friendly with no chemicals and no waste.
Powder coating is a very durable finish and comes in hundreds of colors and textures. It resists cracking and peeling and is extremely abrasion, corrosion, and chemical resistant. Because there are no dangerous solvents involved (as traditional wet paint finishes), the powder coating process is an environmentally safe method of coating metal items.
